How I began this Directory:
This Directory is the culmination of a dream that began in 1990 when
I moved here to Los Angeles from the East Coast. I was very eager
to make my home in a city that had a worldwide reputation for being
on the forefront of holistic medicine, ecology, spirituality and higher
consciousness. When I arrived, I began to search for these resources
only to find that the search was anything but easy. With all the
products and services available, I discovered that there was no
central source I could consult to find them simply and easily other
than through word-of- mouth recommendations. Having over ten
years experience in the Yellow Page industry, I knew I was the right
person to take on this project. Little did I know how immense this
task would be. With thousands of resources in the Los Angeles
Metropolitan Area, it has literally taken me several years to track
down these resources and I often feel that I haven't even scratched
the surface!
How and where we have grown:
The printed version of the Directory made its premiere
appearance at the Eco Expo in April, 1994. Since then, the
printed version of the Directory has grown to a free circulation of
100,000 per year and a distribution territory including counties of
Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and Ventura.
Our upcoming expansion will be to include all of Southern
California from Santa Barbara to San Diego including many
resources just across the border in Mexico.
Where we distribute the printed Directory:
I have personally brought tens of thousands of cases of books each year to our free distribution sites including health food stores, restaurants (which are known for natural and healthy food), bookstores (holistic, metaphysical, etc.), health practitioners' offices and all of the major Ecology, Wellness and Metaphysical expos and conventions. In addition, we have provided a reference copy to many major libraries, hotel concierges and practitioners' waiting rooms. The Internet's effect on this Directory:
Now that we have our site on the Internet, we are expanding to a world wide reference service. What makes this Internet site unusual is that it is as complete and detailed as a local telephone directory. A small, individual practice, product or service is usually only promoted on a narrow, local basis even though it may have a tremendous value to people all over the world. Our local directory enables that practitioner to participate as a global resource! Many of our nearly 400 headings and cross references are products and services that are usually marketed to a local neighborhood. These important headings are specific, intricate, unusual and frequently controversial and thus they might not even exist in this reference guide if we had started out to compile a world wide directory. Thus, by starting with the local directory, we are able to fill in some amazing detail!
National advertising:
National advertisers can now take advantage of the Natural Resource Directory to reach the 11.2% of the USA's population living in this state, plus the millions of consumers who access our site on the Internet! While that represents a significant percentage of the Nation, our portion of the overall "Conscious Market" is even higher. California's reputation is widely-known and well deserved.
